Tinseltown's Biggest Stars Shine at Hollywood Movie Awards
The Oscars are still months away, but the film awards season kicked off on Monday night with stars
from Tom Hanks to Jodie Foster taking home acting gongs at the sixth Annual Hollywood Movie
Awards.
The gala ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel boasted a guest list which read like a who’s who of
the film world’s biggest luminaries. Leonardo DiCaprio, Drew Barrymore, Arnold Schwarzenegger and
Cameron Diaz all presented trophies, while fresh from her big Emmy win, Jennifer Aniston picked
up a best actress of the year award for her work in The Good Girl. Two-time Academy Award winner
Tom added another best actor trophy to his mantelpiece collection thanks to his role in Road To
Perdition.
In another highlight of the evening, The Wedding Planner's Matthew McConaughey delivered the
outstanding achievement in acting award to 39-year old Panic Room star Jodie Foster.
The ceremony topped off the Hollywood Film Festival, which opened last week with the world premiere
of psychological thriller The Ring starring Mulholland Drive actress Naomi Watts. The Australian
star, who is the current flame of actor Heath Ledger, was honoured with the festival’s Breakthrough
Acting Award.
The best acting winners – and best movie Minority Report – were selected by the public, who voted
via the internet and at Hollywood Video retail stores in the US.
