Pictures and Reports from the making of The Beach

Virginie Ledoyen in The Beach
Principal photography for The Beach took place in Thailand between January and April 1999. Four major locations were used: Phi Phi Le island, Phuket, Krabi and Khao Yai National Park. Although the film-makers were anxious to stop people watching or taking pictures they couldn't as many of the locations were on public land. Over the following pages you can see some of the pictures taken by tourists who watched the filming of The Beach. We have also included many first-hand reports from on-lookers and extras on the set.

We took the photograph to the left at Surin Beach on Phuket. It shows some of the backpackers employed in the movie as extras. The still on the right is from the movie and shows this actual scene. Do you know the person who is circled or anyone else in the picture?
