"Frank Abagnale could write a check on toilet paper, drawn on the Confederate States Treasury, sign it "U.R. Hooked" and cash it at any bank in town, using a Hong Kong driver´s license for identification."

Factsheet from The DreamWorks Fan Site - December 18, 2001:

Oscar Nominee Leonardo DiCaprio ("What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" and "Titanic") and two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks ("Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump") engage in a game of cat and mouse in the real life drama, "Catch Me If You Can", under the direction of three-time Oscar winner Steven Spielberg ("Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List").

Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) worked as a doctor, a lawyer, and a co-pilot for a major airline all before his 18th birthday. A master of deception, he was also a brilliant forger, whose skill gave him his first claim to fame: at the age of 17, Frank Abagnale, Jr. became the most successful bank robber in the history of the United States. FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Hanks) had made it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice but Frank is always one step ahead of him, baiting him to continue the chase.

Steven Spielberg will direct "Catch Me If You Can" from a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, based on the autobiographical book of the same name by Frank Abagnale, Jr. and Stan Redding. The film is being produced by Steven Spielberg, and Walter E Parkes, ("Gladiator"), with Barry Kemp, Laurie MacDonald, Michael Shane and Tony Romano executive producing.

The Factsheet mentions a supposed release date for the end of 2002.

Two Quotes about Leonardo

Nathalie Baye who plays alongside Leonardo in CMIYC about him:

How was your relationship with him?

He's a magnificient actor, a hard work actor and a very fine man. He is absolutely not ruined by what happened to him. And is not contented with his gifts. He works enormously. This is something that hit me: Americans work a lot. I also believe in the virtue of working. It is probably because I come from the dance world. The more we work, the less we see it.

Steven Spielberg at the Chicago Sunday Times - July 1st, 2002:

Meanwhile, Spielberg just finished directing Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio in "Catch Me If You Can" due out at Christmas. Details? "All I can say is that you forget he's Tom Hanks five minutes into this movie and you forget it's Leo five and a half minutes into the film," he says. As for Leo's big-screen comeback in both "Gangs of New York" and "Catch Me," Spielberg says, "You'll really remember that this guy is an incredible actor. That's what his whole thing is about and not what you read in the tabloids."
