anlimara's My Space

What I do:

I play piano and guitar and work as a music teacher.

I also play in a band since three years and we are busily working :)

Music:

Music is a very important part of my life and I listen to very different styles of music: classical music, rock, indie, world music, jazz and experimental.

Some of my faves:
David Bowie, Patti Smith, John Cale, Lou Reed, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sting, Everclear, Radiohead, Neil Young, Placebo, Dandy Warhols, Paul Simon;
Paco de Lucia, Keith Jarrett, Kronos Quartett, Gidon Kremer's Projects, Ry Cooder's Projects;
the classical music of Bach and Schubert, the old modernists like Debussy, Ravel & Béla Bartok.

Arts:

I like going to museums and visiting art exhibitions and watching all kinds of weird stuff. The paintings I liked the most are the classical modernists like Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, all the French impressionists, the German painters Emil Nolde, Paul Klee, 'Der Blaue Reiter', and I love Kurt Schwitter's MERZ (the founder of Dada)!

Other Interests:

I'm interested in politics, culture and society, so I read a lot of magazines and newspapers. But when I find the time I love reading a good book: mainly I read non-fiction books, but I liked and like the books of Umberto Eco (all kind of subjects), Luciano De Crescenzo (philosophy), D.H. Lawrence (the English society), H.G. Wells (science fiction), Stanislaw Lem (science fiction), Jack Kerouac (you know, the BEAT generation author), T.C. Boyle & Hanif Kureishi (both writing in a way about the clash of cultures in nowadays society with a smiling eye), Arthur Rimbaud (poetry), Heinrich Heine (the most intelligent and charming poet and analyst of his time, I guess)...

So I see - I seem to be one of these intellectual a**holes, isn't it, because I really like these things - *smile* !

Besides that I like riding my bicycle, doing walks in the parks, in the city, in a forest when I find the time, I love mediterrean cooking and inviting friends for eating it, I liked going to cafes and bars, smoking and meeting people there (which I entirely quit - all of it *g* !), I like the movies a lot and go to the cinemas as often as possible, and now, living on the countryside since a while, I love visiting the next city and feel a bit more 'pulse of life' there. I think, in my heart I'm a person who wants to live in the city :)

I like learning languages - since a while I try to learn Turkish - and I'm very fascinated about experiencing the different kind of life styles that come together now in our modern society i.e. the people from the Orient coming to the Western world and dealing with it...

It seems, I like making websites, trying things with my computer and spending a good amount of time in the Web, meeting people there whom I cherish a lot. But I really try not to let that get out of control - LOL !

Heroes:

Erich Fromm:
when I was younger I learned a lot for my life through his books and for a long time he was a kind of 'guru' to me.

Umberto Eco:
he has a charming, witty, intelligent, very knowledgeable style of writing and I always learn the weirdest things by his books.

Patti Smith:
To me she is a wise and great Rock'n'Roll lady, the first punk musician, a great Beat lyrics writer, she has the aura of a witch lady who knows a lot, she introduced me into Rimbaud and I like she's supporting the Dalai Lama and Tibet, and she has a big place in my heart and I listen to all of her music :)

David Bowie:
Everybody knows him and I myself discovered him not until 5 years ago - bummer ! He's a legend, an icon, a great artist and performer on stage and a warm and unbelievably charming person off-stage. First I was fascinated by the interviews he used to give, and then I absolutely fell for him when I saw him on stage. I love his music in a way like I have returned home by discovering it, in everything he's a great inspiration for me and he's also one the most attractive men on planet (well, I think so - *blush*).

Leonardo DiCaprio:
This must be a love story :) Since I saw him for the first time in 'Titanic' it just makes me happy to know he exists and to just watch him. He lightened up my life in so many ways and I never want to miss him !

Travelling:

When I was younger I loved travelling a lot, and I had the joy and opportunity to visit France a lot of times, Paris, Italy, Portugal, Rome, Switzerland, Prague, Turkey, Istanbul, Israel, & Egypt (Kairo) - to also mention the cities which made the deepest impression on me... Now I regret I don't have the money for it any more these times....

The Future:

For a long time it has been my big dream to emigrate to California, to San Francicso and live in the city which I think is one of the most interesting and most beautiful ones in the world. It doesn't seem to work. So, as my thinking of the past and of the future has always something to do with the South, the sun, the liveliness of the Southern lifestyle, I can imagine to leave this place one day for to go to the South of France, or, more far away, to the Bosporus, to a city 'between Orient and Occident' - to Istanbul - to spent the rest of my life there.....

Coda

Okay - I'm not sure if this stuff really should be in the Internet. I don't know if the 'Web 2.0' really is a good thing. And I know everyone can create a new and totally fictional identity in the Internet if he feels to do so. So I haven't made up my mind yet....
But creating this was fun, so that's why I did it :)

Ecology:

There is no money for a Toyota Prius Hybrid or a nobel Lexus limousine, so I usually ride my bicycle for short distances or use the bus and sometimes the train. My friend drives an old car.

I didn't make any trip by airplane in years.

We use energy-saving light bulbs.

We practice waste seperation since many years.

We live in a hundred-years-old German timber-framed house and installed recently a very modern natural gas heating system into it without any state-sponsoring. As natural gas became incredibly expensive within the last years, we alternate using this heating with burning firewood or old furnitures. It's beyond our possibilities to install a modern solar panel on the roof.

I don't eat much meat.

I've been voting green since I can think.

Best ecological movies everyone on planet should have seen:

The Day After Tomorrow by Roland Emmerich

An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore

(I haven't seen Leonardo's '11th Hour' yet, but I fully support him in this subject.)

Animals:

My dog has been a nice black lady named Masha and she's no longer here...

We have a cat with the beautiful full name Diego 'Strolch' Flohbus - *smile* - but most of the time he's called (with a tender voice) "Na du", or sometimes (reproachfully) "Soso !" - and be sure he understands all of that !

I'm a big fan of polar bear KNUT from the Berlin zoo.

My favourite animals are elephants; unfortunately they are too big to have one for my own :)
