NEW YORK (Variety) - Next summer's movie release slate is so crowded that two megabudget period dramas have staked out the same date in July.
Miramax has scheduled Gangs, which stars Leonardo
DiCaprio and Cameron
Diaz, and Road, which features Tom
Hanks and Paul
Newman, surely would cannibalize each other's audiences if neither
studio blinks and shifts it film.
But there is little real estate left in a summer already crowded with
highly anticipated fare such as Spider-Man, Men in Black 2,
Scooby-Doo and the next Star
Wars installment.
