'Gangs' is Labor of Love

The screening of the twenty-minute segment of Gangs of New York was the talk of the Croisette yesterday, as director Martin Scorsese, and stars Leonard DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz were on hand to field questions from the international press. The film's production difficulties and delays have dominated media coverage, causing speculation among industry players that the historical epic may not live up to its multi-million dollar budget. The film's Miramax producer, Harvey Weinstein, angrily dismissed the rumors, stating that the film was "a labor of love." Scorsese, who spoke of his life-long desire to make Gangs in an hour-long discussion after the premier, was given a standing ovation by his industry peers.
