shone with exhuberance, wonder, anticipation.
It' still a game, but a game with much higher stakes.
The rules changed midway.

Hungry, probing eyes trailing every move.
A restless animal within an invisible cage - trapped.
Eyes once so brilliant blue,
lifeless, wary, downcast.

Unwilling to meet the searching looks
when the fitful storm surrounding passes.
Will they shine again, brightly as the ghostly moon,
or has the downpour extinguished forever the glow
